Nepal Proposes Hosting a Bilateral T20 Cricket Series with Bangladesh

Nepal has formally proposed organizing a bilateral T20 cricket series with Bangladesh during a meeting held in Dhaka. Bangladesh’s State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, responded positively to the proposal and requested Nepal to send an official letter of intent. During the meeting, both sides discussed expanding cooperation in sports, cultural exchanges, mountaineering, and high-altitude training.

On 26th Bhadra, Kathmandu – The Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, presented the formal proposal to State Minister Aminul Haque in Dhaka on Thursday. Minister Haque indicated that Bangladesh would positively consider the proposal and initiate discussions with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Ambassador Bhandari also expressed appreciation for the timely assistance provided by the Bangladesh government following Nepal’s recent devastating floods. He highlighted the excellent political relations between Nepal and Bangladesh and emphasized that sports and cultural exchanges could further strengthen bilateral relations.

Noting the absence of any recent bilateral cricket series between the two countries, Bhandari proposed organizing a T20 series. “Our team is fully prepared to visit Bangladesh, and we would warmly welcome Bangladesh here in Nepal as well,” said Ambassador Bhandari.

State Minister Aminul Haque welcomed the proposal, emphasizing that Bangladesh prioritizes sports diplomacy as an effective means of enhancing regional cooperation. He requested Nepal to submit a formal letter of intent to proceed with the process, after which the Ministry would begin necessary discussions with the BCB.

During the meeting, Minister Haque also proposed expanding cooperation with Nepal in mountaineering and high-altitude training.
