Nepal to Send 135 Athletes Competing in 21 Sports at 20th Asian Games; No Participation in Breaking Dance
Nepal has finalized the participation of 135 athletes competing in 21 sports at the 20th Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. At a farewell ceremony held at Singha Durbar, it was announced that a total delegation of 211 members, including athletes and officials, will represent Nepal at the event. Initially, 137 athletes across 22 sports were selected, but after the withdrawal of one athlete each from breaking dance and wushu, the delegation comprises 135 athletes in 21 sports. Nepalese athletes are set to compete in 21 sports with a total of 135 competitors at the 20th Asian Games, taking place from September 19 to October 4. The delegation departing from Nepal will include 211 members in total, comprising athletes and officials. The final numbers were announced during a farewell event held on Thursday at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sports in Singha Durbar.
Initially, Nepal planned to participate with 137 athletes across 22 sports. However, one athlete each from breaking dance and wushu withdrew, resulting in the participation being reduced to 135 athletes in 21 sports. Nepal’s sole breaking dance athlete, Sunil Bamjan, decided not to take part, leading the organizers to withdraw Nepal’s participation from the breaking dance event. The finalized Nepalese team includes 57 female and 78 male athletes competing across these 21 sports. In addition, 29 coaches, 17 managers, and 2 technical officials will accompany the team.
Nepalese athletes will compete in archery (2), athletics (6), badminton (4), boxing (7), cricket (15), cycling (2), golf (4), judo (6), kabaddi (24), karate (8), rafting and canoeing (2 each), skating and skateboarding (2 each), soft tennis (4), squash (2), swimming (5), table tennis (6), taekwondo (3), tennis (5), volleyball (12), wrestling (6), and wushu (10). The basketball competition at the 20th Asian Games started earlier on September 10, while the official opening ceremony is scheduled for September 19.
