September 12, Tehran (RASA/AFP) – Ten Iranian fishermen who went missing from Iran’s southern coastline last August were found in the United Arab Emirates. They have started returning to their homeland from today.
Iranian media have reported that the government has facilitated arrangements for its citizens stranded in the UAE due to the ongoing war to reunite with their families promptly.
These fishermen went missing amid escalating conflict in the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz has become a major point of dispute between Tehran and Washington. Fishermen operating along Iran’s coast have suffered significantly due to this conflict.
Since the war began on February 28, American-Israeli attacks including bombings of naval mines and ships in Hormuz have created severe risks at sea. According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, shortly before the news was prepared, these ten Iranians departed Dubai by plane bound for home.
They are flying back to Bandar Abbas. Earlier in July, 55 Iranian fishermen also returned home from the UAE. Reports of fishermen going missing at sea frequently appear in Iranian media.
