September 17, Kathmandu – Following his announcement of international retirement, Lionel Messi has been invited by Argentina to appear at a special home friendly match scheduled for October.
Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), revealed via social media that the association wants to give the world’s greatest footballer and national team captain a fitting farewell on home soil.
The 39-year-old Messi, who led Argentina to the 2022 World Cup title, declared his retirement from international football earlier this month. However, he has not yet announced whether he will participate in the October game.
During FIFA’s September-October international window, Argentina will play three home friendlies. Among these, the match against Benin on October 7 at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires has been proposed as Messi’s possible farewell match.
Prior to that, Argentina will also face Bolivia and Burkina Faso in friendly matches.
