EU Sees 2.3% Increase in Flights, Slovakia Records Remarkable 37% Surge

In August, Slovakia experienced a 37 percent increase in commercial flights compared to the same period last year. This growth rate is the highest among European Union member states, while the average increase across the EU stands at a modest 2.3 percent.

Slovakia’s Ministry of Transport identified the reopening of the Bratislava–Košice domestic air service as the main factor driving the rise in flights during August. This service had been suspended for seven years before resuming last year. Currently, Wizz Air operates daily flights on this route.

According to Eurostat data, Malta and Estonia saw smaller flight increases at 12.4 percent and 8.3 percent respectively. However, flight numbers declined in eight other EU member states. The ministry stated that the reestablished air service has contributed not only to increased passenger traffic but also facilitated new routes and expanded destinations at both airports.
