Donald Trump Deems Iran’s Proposal on Hormuz Strait Insufficient Amid Talks
US President Donald Trump has stated that Iran’s proposal to reopen the Hormuz Strait is insufficient from the American perspective. In a detailed interview with Time magazine, Trump shared his views on the ongoing conflict with Iran, the prospects of negotiations, and the situation surrounding the Hormuz Strait. The interview, conducted several days ago, was published on Thursday.
According to Trump, Iran’s condition is dire, with its economy weakening and the country eager for a deal. He emphasized that he seeks a “real deal.” Trump also acknowledged the possibility of renewed strikes on Iran following the upcoming midterm elections. “I won’t agree to what I rejected a year ago. Iran could be devastated, and that is a possibility,” Trump stated.
Discussing Iran’s proposal to open the Hormuz Strait, Trump said he had reviewed some aspects of the offer but not all. “This proposal is not enough,” he asserted. Trump highlighted that the United States possesses a large arsenal of weapons and is currently stockpiling more, which will be supplied to allied nations. He also dismissed reports suggesting the US military is facing ammunition shortages, calling most of those “false news.”
Trump made it clear that Iran must not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons. He stressed that preventing Iran from acquiring such arms is essential. Furthermore, Trump predicted that after reaching an agreement with Iran, oil prices would drop back to previous levels.
