At Cockroach Party Rally, Deepak Recalls Mahatma Gandhi to Ambedkar

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) held a protest near Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Friday against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. During the demonstration, CJP founder Abhijit Deepak addressed the crowd. In his speech, Deepak invoked the memories of Mahatma Gandhi, B.R. Ambedkar, and Jawaharlal Nehru. “If Gandhi is the soul of this nation, then Ambedkar is its backbone,” Deepak said. “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Nehru granted us the right to vote.”

The protest included actress Shabana Azmi and various artists from Mumbai, along with Abhijit Deepak, Saurabh Das, and Ajinkya Shinde. The CJP had called for the demonstration in Mumbai on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. According to the party, the protest aimed to raise public awareness about alleged irregularities in the SIR process and election procedures. Earlier that day, opposition parties and left-wing student groups gathered at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to protest the same issue. However, Delhi Police denied permission to hold the demonstration at the main Jantar Mantar site. Curfews under Section 163 of the Indian Public Security Act were imposed in various parts of New Delhi.
