1,318 Security Personnel Killed in Israel Over Three Years
October 6, Jerusalem – The Israeli Ministry of Defense reported that within three years since the conflict began on October 7, 2023, a total of 1,318 people, including soldiers, security personnel, and rescue workers, have died. This data was released by the ministry on Sunday ahead of the third anniversary of the Hamas-led attack. According to the ministry, the casualties include soldiers, police officers, employees of Shin Bet (Israel’s internal security agency), prison staff, firefighters, rescue workers, local security coordinators, and members of emergency response teams. The figures cover casualties resulting from Israeli military operations following the October 7 attack in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq, as well as actions against Iranian and Houthi groups in Yemen.
Israel had reported approximately 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages taken in the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023. Following the attack, Israel launched military operations in the Gaza Strip that later expanded to other regional areas. During this period, the Gaza Health Ministry reported on Saturday that Israeli military actions have led to the deaths of more than 74,722 Palestinians and injured 175,188. According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), around 82 percent of Gaza’s infrastructure—nearly 200,000 buildings—has been damaged, with approximately two-thirds completely destroyed.
In September 2025, the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, released a report concluding that Israel has been committing atrocities amounting to a massacre against Palestinians in Gaza. The commission called on Israel to immediately halt all such abuses. The conflict has also spread beyond Gaza. Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported in June that since March 2, 2024, Israeli attacks have caused 4,057 deaths and injured 12,121 people. In Iran, the official news agency IRNA cited Iranian officials in April reporting that 3,468 people had died over a 40-day conflict against Israel and the United States; among the dead, 1,460 were civilians.
Violence has escalated in the occupied West Bank as well. According to United Nations data, from October 7, 2023, to July 24, 2026, 1,112 Palestinians have been killed there. In Syria, following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government, the Israeli army has entered the buffer zone between Israel and Syria. This area was established under the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement and is a demilitarized zone monitored by the United Nations. Meanwhile, in November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israel has rejected the decision.
