Japanese Ambassador Akira Mutō spent 25 minutes at the Russian Foreign Ministry before leaving without making any comments. The Russian Foreign Ministry had summoned the Japanese ambassador following Tokyo’s protest against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to the Kuril Islands. September 18, Kathmandu.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that Mutō attended the meeting after recovering his health. Tokyo had expressed opposition to Putin’s visit to Iturup. This protest prompted the Russian Foreign Ministry to summon the Japanese ambassador.
When questioned by TASS reporters, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov initially said that the Japanese embassy had caused confusion, noting that the embassy did not provide a clear reason and had indicated the ambassador would not be able to come to the ministry on August 14 or 17. Following Lavrov’s remarks, Zakharova explained that Mutō’s ‘sudden improvement in health’ led to the decision to attend on August 18.
