Telecom Authority Provides 20 Satellite Phones to Enhance Communication in Flood-Affected Areas

14 Bhadra, Kathmandu – To facilitate communication in the flood-affected areas of Rasuwa Bhotekoshi, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority has supplied 20 satellite phones. These phones were provided to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority as disaster relief assistance through the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Of the total phones distributed, 10 have been dispatched to Rasuwa district and 10 to Nuwakot district for operational use.

The satellite phones can be used free of charge for the next three months. This technology offers phone and SMS services even in remote areas without telecom network coverage, though it is considered quite costly. It is expected that the use of these satellite phones will help maintain communication without interruption during disasters, thereby supporting more effective rescue operations.
