
Nepal Set to Face India or Sri Lanka in Quarterfinals at 2026 Asian Games Cricket Tournament
Nepal will compete against Afghanistan and Japan in the group stage of the cricket event at the 2026 Asian Games scheduled to take place in Japan. Positioned in Group ‘A’, Nepal will face Sri Lanka in the quarterfinals if it tops the group, or India if it finishes as runner-up. Nepal secured its spot in the tournament by remaining undefeated in the Asian Games qualifiers held in Singapore. Kathmandu, September 7.
It has been confirmed that Nepal will play against Afghanistan and Japan during the group stage of the cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. Upon advancing past the group stage, Nepal will face either India or Sri Lanka in the quarterfinals. Being part of Group ‘A’, Nepal will play directly against Sri Lanka if it finishes as group winner, whereas finishing second will pit it against India in the quarterfinals. Notably, Nepal was previously defeated by India in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Asian Games.
Group ‘B’ consists of Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Oman. India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan have already qualified directly for the quarterfinals. The tournament rules allow the top two teams from each group to advance to the quarterfinals. Nepal earned its place in the competition by going undefeated in the Asian Games qualifiers held in Singapore.
