Iranian President Arrives in New Delhi to Attend BRICS Summit

September 12, Kathmandu – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in New Delhi to participate in the BRICS summit. Upon entering India, he was welcomed by Indian Minister of State Shantanu Thakur. Prior to departing for Delhi, President Pezeshkian stated in Tehran that the purpose of BRICS is to resist American hegemony. “The new BRICS countries were formed to free themselves from dependence on the dollar and to oppose American dominance,” he explained. According to news agency PTI, Pezeshkian and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to hold bilateral talks on Friday evening. The talks aim to increase trade between the two countries and further strengthen bilateral relations. This marks Pezeshkian’s first visit to India as president. The visit takes place amid US economic sanctions on Iran and escalating tensions in West Asia. Other key leaders attending the BRICS summit in India include Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
