Nepali Congress Secretariat Meeting Underway

The secretariat meeting of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), known as CPN-UML, is currently underway at the party office in Chyasal on Chaitra 17. Discussions are focused on the party’s upcoming programs and the selection of the parliamentary party leader. The first meeting to select the parliamentary party leader has been scheduled for Chaitra 19 at 2 p.m.

On Chaitra 17 in Kathmandu, the CPN-UML secretariat is convening for the second time since party chairman KP Sharma Oli was arrested on charges related to suppression of the JNU movement. The previous secretariat meeting was held last Saturday, the day Oli was detained, chaired by Vice President Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal. That meeting established plans for protest programs.

Today’s meeting at the party office in Chyasal is continuing discussions about the party’s future activities, according to a party leader. Additionally, deliberations regarding the selection of the parliamentary party leader are in progress. Following the general election held on Falgun 21, the first meeting of elected members of the House of Representatives is slated for Chaitra 19 at 2 p.m., marking preparations to select the parliamentary party leader for CPN-UML.
