NASA and Artemis II: How Astronauts Use the Bathroom in Space

Questions often arise about how astronauts use the bathroom in space. NASA has launched the ‘Artemis II’ mission, a 10-day campaign orbiting the Moon. For this mission, NASA scientists have employed a ‘Universal Waste Management System’ designed to make it easier for crew members to use the restroom aboard the spacecraft. This specialized system allows both male and female astronauts to dispose of solid and liquid waste.

However, during the spacecraft’s launch, some unexpected issues with the system were reported by NASA’s flight controllers. They later confirmed that these problems have been resolved and that the waste management system is functioning properly. Besides this system, there are other options available for astronauts to manage waste onboard the spacecraft.
