Children Assist Injured Dog in Need of Help

An injured female Labrador dog was found in a critical condition in Kirtipur. Local children protected the injured dog from attacks, providing biscuits and water while keeping watch over her. On Chaitra 11, a stray dog was discovered in Kirtipur. The dog, a female Labrador, is a breed often used for breeding purposes and its puppies sold at high prices. Unfortunately, this dog was severely injured, with horrific wounds across her belly. The wounds were extensive and festering with maggots. Unable to move, the dog appeared to have been abandoned there by someone. Other dogs in the vicinity tried to attack and bite the weak and helpless animal.

Local animal lover Gyani Pun urgently posted on Facebook about the dog’s dire condition, appealing for rescue help. She shared the dog’s heartbreaking state across numerous animal welfare groups online but received little assistance. Pun spent the entire night tending and crying over the dog, expressing her sorrow at the lack of support. The dog’s condition was so fragile that there was genuine worry about whether she would survive the night. However, the next day, a group of small children stood guard over the dog. They protected her from other animals while providing biscuits and water, patiently staying with her until professional rescue arrived.

After prolonged efforts, a rescue team eventually arrived and began treating the dog. Pun wrote on Facebook, “These young children stood by the wounded dog, guarding her without fear or hesitation. They prevented attacks from other dogs. For them, she was not a ‘problem’ or a ‘sick animal’ — she was a living being in pain who needed help.”

According to Pun, these children had no selfish motives, only pure kindness and compassion. Their courage and humanity move anyone who hears their story. In the morning, the rescue team reached the scene and successfully extracted the dog safely. She is now receiving medical care under reliable supervision. Pun expressed gratitude, saying, “If we could all have hearts as big as these children’s, the world would be a much better place.” Currently, efforts are underway to find the dog a long-term shelter and a loving home. Pun has appealed, “If possible, please help provide a new home for this innocent life.” It is common to find well-bred dogs abandoned on the streets when injured, ill, or old—a practice often linked to breeding centers, according to animal rights activists.
