Three Key Statements by Trump on Iran Made on Thursday
April 23, Kathmandu – U.S. President Donald Trump made three significant statements related to Iran on Thursday. These remarks, concerning the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s internal politics, and ongoing peace efforts, offer varied perspectives on the situation. In his first statement, Trump revealed that he has ordered the U.S. Navy to immediately attack any ship laying naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. “I have instructed the U.S. Navy — if they see any ship laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, attack immediately,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “There should be no hesitation.” He also noted that American minesweepers are actively working to clear threats in the Strait.
In another Truth Social post later that day, Trump asserted that the U.S. maintains full control over the Strait of Hormuz. He commented that even the Iranian public is not certain who their real ‘leader’ is, remarking, “There is intense conflict inside the country between hardliners and moderates. The hardliners are being defeated on the battlefield, and the moderates are not that moderate either. Yet, they are receiving respect, which is surprising.” He explained that the U.S. military’s complete control over the Strait means no ship can pass through without American naval permission.
In his third statement on Thursday, during an interview with the BBC, Trump said that his actions have produced very positive results. “The opposition (Iran) is increasingly eager to negotiate. So whatever I say or do is having a positive impact,” he stated. He warned that a war with Iran would be difficult for the U.S. and suggested such a conflict would likely involve NATO members. Trump clarified that the U.S. has always had the support of the United Kingdom and NATO allies.
