This year’s Secondary Education Examination (SEE) results were announced approximately one and a half months earlier than last year, which officials and experts believe will help reduce students’ psychological stress post-exam and facilitate educational institutions in completing their syllabi more smoothly.
Chudamani Poudel, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, said in an interview that this arrangement is part of a plan to start and conclude all school-level education within the same academic session.
“Why divide education from Grade 1 to 12 into two sessions? The goal is to start gradually from Baisakh [mid-April] and finish in Chaitra [mid-April of the next year] for all,” Secretary Poudel explained. “This approach will eliminate the issue of incomplete credit periods.”
Last year, the SEE exams were delayed by nearly one and a half weeks due to the House of Representatives elections.
Unlike last year, the coding technology previously used was removed, and by checking answer sheets directly at the exam centers, the results were published within a month this time.
In 2078 BS [2021/22 AD], a total of 430,667 students participated in the SEE, out of which 284,000 students obtained grades qualifying them for Grade 11 admission.
The National Examination Board stated that 146,507 regular students are required to take the grade improvement exams.

This year, 65.98% of students have qualified to study in Grade 11, which is approximately 4% higher than last year.
“The government’s objective is to publish results quickly in alignment with the academic calendar,” said Jayanti Satyal, spokesperson for the National Examination Board.
“The grade improvement exams will begin from Asar 1 [mid-June], and there is a plan to announce those results even faster than before.”
However, the academic schedule for Grade 11 has yet to be released this year. The exam for Grade 11 is scheduled for Jestha 1 [mid-May].
“After that, schools will be vacated for Grade 11 studies and the enrollment campaign will begin,” Satyal added.
Secretary Poudel stated that the Grade 11 academic calendar will be issued shortly.
“This year, the Grade 11 session will likely start in Asar month [mid-June],” he said.
The new government has also pledged to announce Grade 12 results within one and a half months.
Spokesperson Satyal mentioned that the government is considering further speeding up result publication, especially during weeks with two declared public holidays.
‘Efforts to Eliminate Delays’
Education sector expert Dhananjay Sharma highlighted that earlier delays in SEE results caused psychological stress among students, which is expected to be reduced this year.
“Getting timely enrollment and completing studies on schedule is most important. Previously, it was difficult to finish courses on time, or teachers had to rush to complete syllabi,” Sharma said.
He also viewed the new system of grading answer sheets at exam centers—eliminating the coding method—as a positive development.
This time, the teachers at examination centers themselves evaluated the answer sheets to facilitate faster result processing.
“This has reduced the perception of SEE as a dreadful exam,” Sharma said.
“Earlier, some students would secure good grades from large schools even before the results were officially announced and gain admission in +2 or A-Level colleges. Now, everyone has equal opportunity.”
Sharma also expressed that if grade improvement exams and results are delivered quickly, students will be able to start classes on time.
“Otherwise, grade improvement results usually arrive around Dashain, and the Dashain-Tihar holidays affect the academic calendar,” he explained.
The Examination Board’s spokesperson Satyal confirmed that this year students who took regular and grade improvement exams will be able to begin their classes from Shrawan onwards [mid-July].
In previous years, regular SEE results were usually published only towards the end of Asar [mid-July].
