PSG Clinches Fifth Consecutive French Ligue 1 Title
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has secured the French Ligue 1 title for the fifth consecutive season, marking their 14th overall triumph. In last night’s league match, PSG defeated Lens 2-0 to guarantee the league championship for this season. The game held at Lens’ stadium saw Kylian Mbappé open the scoring in the 29th minute, followed by a second goal from Ibrahima Mbaye during injury time in the second half.
PSG manager Luis Enrique described this title as the sweetest and most hard-fought victory. He stated, “This is our sweetest and toughest title. Undoubtedly, it has been the most challenging to win among the last three years.” Enrique also credited Lens’ impressive performance as one of the key factors behind this success.
PSG holds the record with 14 French Ligue 1 titles, while Saint-Étienne has won the title 10 times. Over the past 14 seasons, PSG has been crowned champion 12 times. Since securing their third league title in the 2012-13 season, PSG only missed out on the league title in the 2016-17 and 2020-21 seasons.
PSG will face their city rivals Paris FC in the final league game on Sunday. Additionally, PSG is set to compete against the English club Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League final on May 30. PSG will be aiming to defend their title, while Arsenal, reaching the Champions League final for the first time in 20 years, seeks to claim their first championship.
