Multi-Year Funding Secured for Chhusang–Ghami Road Upgradation Project
The Ministry of Finance has secured a multi-year funding agreement worth NPR 3.15 billion for the road project from Chhusang to Ghami in Mustang. According to a cabinet decision, the project chief, Tejashwi Sharma, announced that the contract process for the Chhusang–Ghami road will begin during the current fiscal year.
The government had allocated NPR 268.796 million for the blacktopping of the Kagbeni–Chhusang road, which connects to Korla, with construction starting on Ashad 26. Mustang, Baisakh 31. Under the Nepal-China Northern Korla connecting national pride Beni–Jomsom–Korla road project, the Ministry of Finance has confirmed a multi-year funding agreement of NPR 3.15 billion for the road from Baragung Muktikshetra-3, Chhusang, to Ghami in Upper Mustang’s Loghekar Damodarkunda-2.
According to a letter published last Monday by the Budget and Program Division of the Ministry of Finance, the NPR 3.15 billion multi-year funding commitment is for the upgrading and blacktopping of the 40.20-kilometer Chhusang–Ghami road connecting Korla. Previously, under the Kali Gandaki Corridor, the National Planning Commission, in a recommendation on Baisakh 7, had proposed the NPR 3.15 billion budget allocation request to the Ministry of Finance for this road project.
Based on this recommendation, the cabinet approved the funding and informed the National Planning Commission and the Department of Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development through an official letter. The project chief, Tejashwi Sharma, stated that the multi-year funding agreement was arranged in accordance with Section 4, Subsection 2, and Section 7 (g) of the Multi-Year Funding Agreement (First Amendment) Directive, 2082 BS, as per the commission’s recommendation and the cabinet decision made on Monday.
With the funding confirmed by the Ministry of Finance, Sharma said the process for awarding contracts can commence within the current fiscal year. Previously, the government had also allocated the necessary budget to upgrade and blacktop the 9.8-kilometer stretch from Kagbeni to Chhusang in Mustang. Accordingly, on Ashad 26, a contract worth NPR 268.796 million was signed, and construction work began for the Kagbeni–Chhusang blacktopping.
With the objective of blacktopping and further upgrading the road connecting northern Korla, the project has completed preliminary environmental assessments in two phases.
