
Russia and Ukraine Exchange 410 Prisoners of War
May 15, Kathmandu – Russia and Ukraine have conducted a prisoner of war exchange. On Friday, 205 prisoners from each country were swapped. US President Donald Trump announced a possible ceasefire between the two nations a week ago. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported via social media that 205 Russian soldiers had returned home from Ukraine.
Similarly, the ministry confirmed that 205 Ukrainian prisoners of war were returned to Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the prisoner exchange, noting that most Ukrainian soldiers had been held in Russian custody since 2022. He described this exchange as the first phase of a plan for both countries to swap nearly a thousand prisoners each. Photos transparently shared by Zelensky on X show the released prisoners happily reunited with their families, wrapped in the Ukrainian flag.
