Passport Applications Can Be Completed Within 30 Minutes, Passports Issued the Next Day

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims to have established a system that allows passport application procedures to be completed within 30 minutes. The Department of Passport plans to issue passports the day after applications are submitted. The department is preparing to launch a new ‘MOFA Mitra’ application on June 25. Kathmandu, June 21.

At a press conference today, ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Paudel Kshetri informed that arrangements have been made to submit passport applications within 30 minutes. While noting that the passport service is currently simplified, the ministry has requested applicants to appear at the designated time with the necessary documents. Upon presenting the required documents, the spokesperson explained, applicants can submit their applications within 30 minutes.

He also stated that passports applied for at district and local administrative offices, as well as Nepali missions abroad, will be printed and dispatched within 7 to 12 days. Coordination is underway with the Postal Service Department to deliver passports to private addresses. The department has indicated that the implementation of a new system is in its final phase.

The ministry reported that out of 207,593 passports received from the current supplier, 2,737 ordinary passports remain in stock. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested applicants who need passports by the end of next January to submit their applications preferably before the end of June. Additionally, the new supplier has provided 250,000 passports, and the personalization testing has been successfully completed, the ministry added.
