May 23, Biratnagar – Biratnagar Metropolitan City has secured the championship title of the third edition of the Itahari Mayor Cup Inter-Municipality Cricket Tournament for the third consecutive year.

In the final held on Saturday, Biratnagar defeated Morang’s Katahari Rural Municipality by 27 runs, maintaining their dominance by winning a hat-trick of titles.

Previously, Biratnagar won the first and second editions by beating Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City. This time, Biratnagar continued their strong performance to lift the trophy again.

Playing at the ground of DVM School in Itahari, Biratnagar batted first and scored a competitive 167 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Kritik Kamat played an excellent unbeaten innings, scoring 56 runs off 45 balls, including 4 sixes and 3 fours.

Captain Firdos Ansari also contributed aggressively, hitting 51 runs in 23 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes, registering a half-century. Dipak Paswan added 32 runs, and the team earned 20 extras.

Chasing 168 runs, Katahari Rural Municipality managed only 140 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Despite a hard-fought effort from Katahari’s batsmen, they fell short of the target.

Katahari captain Lov Kamat top-scored with 49 runs, featuring 8 fours. He tried to guide the team back into the game but didn’t receive sufficient support. Rudra Pratap Shah scored 29, Dipu Bhujel 13, Nirdesh Basnet 12, and Abhay Kamat 11 runs.

In bowling, Biratnagar’s Shravan Kisku, Amar Yadav, and Shravan Yadav each took 2 wickets, putting pressure on Katahari’s batting lineup.

For winning the championship, Biratnagar Metropolitan City received a cash prize of NPR 75,000, while runner-up Katahari Rural Municipality settled for NPR 40,000.

Captain Firdos Ansari of Biratnagar was declared Player of the Final and awarded NPR 1,500 in cash for his outstanding performance.

Additionally, Biratnagar’s Dipesh Kandel was honored as the tournament’s Best Player and Best Bowler, earning NPR 7,000 and NPR 4,000 respectively in cash prizes. Katahari’s Lov Kamat was named Best Batsman, scoring a total of 114 runs across the tournament and received NPR 4,000.

The tournament, organized by Ideal Sports Academy under the coordination of Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City, featured teams from 12 municipalities of Koshi Province.

The awards were presented by Ram Prasad Meheta, Minister for Social Development of Koshi Province, and Keshav Kumar Bisht, former member secretary of the National Sports Council.
