Israeli Prime Minister Says ‘A Very Difficult Evening for the Nation’ Following Iranian Missile Attack

Iranian missiles struck the small southern Israeli town of Arad on Saturday. The Israeli air defense system failed to intercept the attack.
Israeli emergency services reported that 88 people were taken to hospitals following the attack, including 10 with serious injuries.
Additionally, dozens were injured in the southern city of Dimona.
The area is approximately 13 kilometers from an undeclared nuclear weapons facility, and the attack appears to have targeted that center.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the incident as a “very difficult evening for the nation.”
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has stated it is not aware of any damage caused by the attack.

However, the IAEA Director-General has warned that “strict military control around nuclear sites” is especially necessary.
The Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center, located in the Negev Desert, is commonly known as the “Dimona reactor.”
It is considered Israel’s undeclared nuclear weapons storage site.
Officially, the site is described as focused solely on scientific research.
However, Israel has maintained a policy of ambiguity while the site has long been an open secret for decades regarding nuclear bomb production.

This underscores that Israel is the only nuclear-armed country in the Middle East and takes any threats to the region seriously.
Iranian state television called the missile strike a response to an attack on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility on Saturday.

Following threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, Iran warned of retaliatory actions.
Iranian state media stated that if Iran’s fuel and energy processing centers are attacked, the Iranian military will target U.S.-associated energy facilities in the Middle East.
The warning came after President Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum.
Trump threatened complete destruction of Iran’s energy facilities if the Strait of Hormuz was not kept open.
Iran has previously launched missile attacks in southern Israel.
Iran has declared that “the war has now entered a new phase.”
