Foreign Minister Commits to Utilizing International Relations for Development and Investment Expansion

May 28, Kathmandu – Foreign Minister Shashir Khanal expressed the government’s commitment to effectively leveraging Nepal’s international relations to promote the country’s development, economic prosperity, and national interests. Speaking at an event held on Thursday morning in Tokha Municipality ward No. 9, Minister Khanal explained that Nepal’s international relations are based on diplomatic, economic, cultural, and strategic connections with various countries and international organizations worldwide.

He emphasized that Nepal has consistently adhered to an independent, non-aligned, and balanced foreign policy, grounded in the nation’s constitution, principles of the United Nations, the Panchsheel doctrine, and the values of the Non-Aligned Movement. Minister Khanal pointed out that Nepal’s foreign relations are founded on balanced, friendly, and multilateral cooperation, with the primary objectives of protecting national interests, fostering economic development, strengthening peace, and enhancing international collaboration.

“I am committed to eliminating delays within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and providing timely services to citizens. The passport issuance process has been significantly simplified,” he stated. “Where previously acquiring a passport took weeks, now it can be completed within two to three days and, in some cases, by the next day.” He also announced the launch of the ‘MoFA Mitra’ mobile application to address issues faced by Nepalis abroad. This app allows Nepalis stranded or experiencing difficulties overseas to file complaints directly, which will be monitored at the ministerial level.

Minister Khanal further informed that in accordance with the ‘100-point commitment’ disclosed by the government after the election, efforts are underway to investigate the assets of individuals who have held significant public positions since 2006 and to reopen cases of past corruption.
