
Gandaki Province Sets New National Record in Relay Race
In related sports news: During the 16th Central President Running Shield, Gandaki Province established a new junior national record in the boys’ 4×400 meter relay race. In the competition, Bagmati Province secured gold medals in the boys’ 4×400 meter relay, 800 meter run, and long jump events. Athletes from Sudurpashchim Province took gold medals in both boys’ and girls’ long jump and javelin throw events.
On May 21 in Kathmandu – At the 16th Central President Running Shield athletics competition held on Thursday, Gandaki Province set a new junior national record in the boys’ 4×400 meter relay. The team comprised Atit Thapa, Aryan Rana Magar, Ankit Ranabhat, and Sudip Bhandari. They completed the race in 3 minutes and 27.9 seconds at the Dashrath Rangashala in Tripureshwor, setting a new record.
The previous record of 3 minutes 30.9 seconds was held by Bagmati Province athletes Praveen Rana Magar, Hasta Sunar, Niraj Shah, and Sant Bahadur Darai, set in the last edition. In this event, Bagmati Province’s Sapresh Adhikari, Niraj Shah, Hasta Sunar, and Sachin Thing finished second with a time of 3 minutes 30.7 seconds, while Sudurpashchim Province’s Suresh Chaudhary, Chitrabahadur KC, Biraj Sunar, and Barundatta Rana secured third place.
In the girls’ category, Bagmati Province’s Suruchi Moktan, Anisha Tharu, Bhagwati Khadka, and Sharmila Bik finished first, completing the distance in 4 minutes 18.1 seconds. Lumbini’s Anuja Chaudhary, Roshani Kami, Karishma Khadka, and Durga Bik came second, followed by Sudurpashchim’s Usha Chaudhary, Bijaya Chatoul, Swastika Shah, and Kamal Jaishi in third place.
At the event organized by the National Sports Council (Rakhap), Vikram Nath from Sudurpashchim won the boys’ long jump with a leap of 6.60 meters. Bagmati athletes Dipendra Giri and Bishal Gurung tied for third place. In the girls’ long jump, Anisha Tharu from Bagmati Province won gold with a 5.08-meter jump, followed by Sudurpashchim’s Usha Chaudhary in second and Lumbini’s Garima Chaudhary in third.
In the javelin throw, Lokesh Airi of Sudurpashchim captured gold with a 56.32 meter throw. Amit Tharu from Lumbini took silver, and Sohel Mansoli from Koshi Province claimed bronze. In the girls’ javelin event, Sudurpashchim’s Pooja Saud secured first place with a 35.42 meter throw. Umita Rai of Koshi finished second, and Sarita Shah from Karnali was third.
In the boys’ 800 meter run, Hasta Sunar from Bagmati Province won the gold medal by completing the distance in 2 minutes 0.2 seconds. Suman Sunar of Karnali Province took second place, and Sachin Kurmi of Lumbini finished third. In the girls’ 800 meter race, Bhagwati Khadka of Bagmati won gold with a time of 2 minutes 22.1 seconds, followed by Sudurpashchim’s Swastika Shah in second and Gandaki Province’s Asma Adhikari in third place.
