National Independent Party to Hold Conventions in Five Madhesh Districts Today

The National Independent Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party) is preparing to elect new leadership today in five districts of Madhesh: Mahottari, Rautahat, Siraha, Parsa, and Sarlahi. The conventions in Mahottari and Rautahat, which were postponed yesterday due to delegate disputes, will also take place today. Following a controversy during the Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City convention, the convention for Dhanusha district has been rescheduled to 26 Jestha.

Although conventions for Siraha, Dhanusha, Parsa, and Sarlahi were originally scheduled for today, the Dhanusha convention will not proceed. Madhesh Organizational Department Chief, Kamini Chaudhary, informed that today’s conventions will include the previously postponed sessions in Mahottari and Rautahat along with three additional districts.

One Member of Parliament from Madhesh, who is also a representative in the House of Representatives, explained that the suspension was due to disputes regarding delegate selection. He stated, “A letter was received stating that individuals who became department members after 15th Baisakh cannot be made delegates. The convention was postponed yesterday because there was insufficient time to resolve these issues regarding delegate selection.”

Chaudhary further explained that delays in completing procedures led to the rescheduling of Mahottari and Rautahat conventions to today. She noted that without holding the Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City convention, the district convention could not proceed, which caused the Dhanusha convention to be postponed, likely now scheduled for 26 Jestha. The dates for the Bara and Saptari district conventions have yet to be finalized.
