
Army and APF Each Secure Two Gold Medals in National Full Contact Karate Championship
In the inaugural National Full Contact Karate Championship, Nepal Army and the Armed Police Force (APF) each won two gold medals. In the men’s open category, Amit Maharjan and Bhupendra Bahadur Oli (under 55 kg) from the Army secured gold medals. In the women’s category, Anisha Tamang and Rina Majhi (under 50 kg) from the APF claimed the top honors.
Kathmandu, 7 June – Held in the presence of the Prime Minister, this event was organized by the Nepal Full Contact Karate Federation and featured competitions equally divided into men’s and women’s categories, fighting for a total of four gold medals. The Army won both men’s gold medals, while the APF secured both golds in the women’s division.
The championship took place at the covered hall of the National Sports Council (Rakhap) in Tripureshwor. Amit Maharjan claimed the men’s open category gold and Bhupendra Bahadur Oli won in the under-55 kg category, both representing the Army. In the women’s open category, Anisha Tamang, and in the under-50 kg category, Rina Majhi—both representing the APF—stood first on the podium.
The winners were honored by former executive member of Rakhap, Bhan Bahadur Chand, Rakhap member Jagat Singh Dhami, among others. The two-day competition saw the participation of 125 athletes representing all seven provinces, the Nepal Army, and APF, according to Sunar Budhathoki, president of the organizing federation. All medalists in the four events also received cash prizes as part of their awards.
