May 8, Kathmandu — On Monday, in the fifth Nakhipot Open Basketball Tournament for men and women, IMS Kirtipur and Budhanilkantha claimed wins in the men’s division.
Kirtipur defeated Bauddha 68–60. Abhishek Singh led the winners with 29 points. After trailing 14–9 and 13–18 in the first two quarters, Kirtipur delivered an excellent performance in the second half to secure the victory. They gained leads of 17–11 in the third quarter and 24–12 in the fourth quarter.
Budhanilkantha secured a thrilling win against Goldengate, 79–74. Vijay Lama contributed 19 points for Budhanilkantha.
By the end of the third quarter, Goldengate was leading 58–48. The quarter scores were 13–21, 24–12, and 24–15 respectively. In the final quarter, Budhanilkantha mounted a strong comeback with a 31–16 run, eventually winning by a five-point margin.
Earlier in the men’s matches, Dari defeated Playbox 82–53, and Solo beat Dharan 79–66. Vikram Dangol scored 19 points for Dari, while Pragun Maharjan contributed 27 points for Solo.
In the women’s competition held at the covered hall of the host Nakhipot Youth Club, Stars Grandy defeated Budhanilkantha 49–35.
