
Chitwan Police Arrest Man After 8 Years in Group Rape Case
May 11, Chitwan – Chitwan police have arrested a suspect who had been absconding for eight years after committing a group rape by falsely claiming to be from the Nepal Police CID. The arrested individual is Suman Dong, also known as Suman Tamang, a resident of Kalika Municipality-7, Chitwan. He was apprehended during a search operation conducted by a police team deployed from the Ratnanagar and Tandi police offices.
According to police reports, on the night of June 21, 2018 (Ashad 7, 2075), around 2 a.m., two men on a motorcycle took a woman into the forest and forcibly raped her. They falsely introduced themselves as CID officers from the Tandi Police Office, and even took the victim’s underage son along on the motorcycle, claiming they would take him to the police station. Instead, they led the woman into the forest and committed the assault.
In connection with the incident, Putam Thing, a resident of Kalika Municipality-3, had already been arrested. Following investigation, the Chitwan District Court sentenced him to 19 years in prison and fined him 50,000 NPR for kidnapping and rape. Suman Tamang remained at large until he was arrested on May 5 (Jestha 22) by a police team dispatched from the Ratnanagar and Tandi police offices during ongoing search efforts. After his arrest, he was presented before the Chitwan District Court and, following the court’s order, remanded to prison for further investigation, as confirmed by the police.
