Fraud Cases on the Rise Involving Promises to Send Workers to South Korea; Embassy Urges Vigilance

June 16, Kathmandu – Incidents of fraud targeting Nepali citizens through promises of employment or migration to South Korea are rapidly increasing. After uncovering several brokers and individuals attempting to collect large sums of money under the pretext of sending people to South Korea, securing jobs, or facilitating migration processes, the South Korean Embassy in Kathmandu has issued an advisory urging the public to remain cautious. The embassy has also requested that any such individuals or organizations be immediately reported to the Nepal Police.

The embassy clarified that obtaining employment or migration opportunities in South Korea through unauthorized brokers is not possible. To protect themselves from foreign employment scams, the public is strongly advised to stay alert and exercise caution. Given the growing interest in overseas employment, incidents of money extortion under the guise of job placement have increased across various countries. In such circumstances, it is essential to obtain information only from official sources and thoroughly verify any financial transactions before proceeding.
