Netherlands Defeats Sweden 5-1 with Outstanding Performances from Brobbey and Gakpo

Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo each scored twice as the Netherlands secured a convincing 5-1 victory over Sweden. Their contributions were decisive in the FIFA World Cup 2026 match held on Saturday. With this win, the Netherlands accumulated 4 points from two games, rising to the top of Group F. June 20, Kathmandu.

This was the Netherlands’ first win after drawing their opening match against Japan. The victory significantly boosted their chances of advancing to the knockout stage. Sweden suffered their first loss and currently sits second in Group F with 3 points. The match took place at Houston Stadium, USA, where Brobbey gave the team an early lead with two goals.

Brobbey opened the scoring in the 6th minute, converting a cross from Gakpo. He then added another goal in the 17th minute from a cross by Denzel Dumfries. In the second half, the Netherlands scored three more goals, with Gakpo contributing two and Krisencio Somerville adding one. Sweden’s Anthony Elanga scored a consolation goal in the 59th minute, but the team failed to add any more goals afterward.

This victory for the Netherlands nearly guarantees their qualification for the knockout stage. The final group standings will be determined by the match between Japan and Tunisia on Sunday morning.
