Portugal Takes Early 2-Goal Lead Against Uzbekistan Within 17 Minutes

Portugal scored two goals within the first 17 minutes against Uzbekistan in their second match of Group K at the FIFA World Cup 2026. On 9 Ashar in Kathmandu, Portugal established an early lead over Uzbekistan during their group stage encounter. Captain Cristiano Ronaldo set a record as the first player to score in six consecutive FIFA World Cups.

After failing to score against DR Congo in their opening match, Ronaldo opened the scoring for Portugal in the sixth minute at Houston Stadium, giving his team the advantage. Then, Nuno Mendes extended the lead with a free-kick goal in the 17th minute. Ronaldo has scored in every World Cup from 2006 to 2026, playing in six consecutive tournaments. He netted one goal in his debut 2006 World Cup, followed by one goal each in 2010 and 2014. In 2018, he scored four goals against Spain including a hat-trick. He scored once in the 2022 World Cup and has already scored once in the ongoing North American World Cup.
