IAEA Director General Preparing for Upcoming Inspection Visit to Iran’s Nuclear Program
June 24, Kathmandu – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is preparing to soon conduct an inspection visit of Iran’s nuclear program. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi announced plans to proceed with the inspection in accordance with the preliminary peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran. Speaking to reporters during a visit to Japan, Grossi said, “The inspection in Iran will definitely take place. We will determine the date, procedures, and locations as soon as possible.”
He further explained that the recent agreement explicitly states that Iran’s uranium enrichment efforts to reduce the quantity of highly enriched uranium will be monitored under the IAEA’s oversight. Meanwhile, Iranian officials have indicated that detailed discussions with the United States concerning the nuclear facilities damaged during recent U.S. attacks and nuclear technologies will occur only at the final stage of the agreement. Previously, following talks in Switzerland, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris had claimed that Iran had agreed to permit IAEA inspectors to enter the country. However, a spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected Harris’s claim, stating that no detailed discussions had yet taken place on this matter.
