Mbappé’s Goal Puts France Ahead Against Morocco

France captain Kylian Mbappé missed a penalty in the first half but scored in the second half to put his team in the lead. On June 25, in the first quarterfinal match of the FIFA World Cup 2026, France took the lead against Morocco. The match, held at Boston Stadium in the United States, saw Mbappé find the net in the 60th minute.

Mbappé’s penalty attempt in the 28th minute was successfully saved by Morocco’s goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. Despite France, the defending runner-up, creating some good chances including a penalty in the first half, they were unable to capitalize. Morocco’s goalkeeper Bounou delivered an outstanding performance. In the fourth minute, Bounou also saved a header from France’s Upamecano.

In the 25th minute, Morocco’s Mazraoui fouled Mbappé inside the penalty box, prompting the referee to award a penalty to France after review by VAR. Mbappé’s shot to the left side was comfortably saved by Bounou. Similarly, France’s Lucas Digne saw his shot saved by Yassine Bounou during first-half injury time.
