Russia Launches Largest Ballistic Missile Attack on Kyiv Since War Began

August 19, Kathmandu – Russia has carried out the largest series of ballistic missile attacks to date on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. This marks the deadliest assault since the war between Russia and Ukraine began. So far, one person has been reported killed and at least 14 others injured. The attacks continued throughout Saturday night across various locations in Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the assault as “one of the largest ballistic attacks ever on Kyiv.”

Of the 41 missiles launched, 18 were reportedly shot down, along with 108 drones intercepted by Ukrainian forces. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the latest attack on Kyiv involved a range of Russian weapons, including Iskander and hypersonic Zircon missiles, as well as 125 drones. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on Sunday that residential and non-residential buildings, including supermarkets and dormitories, suffered damage.

Firefighters are actively working to extinguish fires in two warehouses. In a message posted on Telegram, Zelensky revealed that over the past week, Russia launched approximately 1,450 attack drones, more than 1,640 guided bombs, and 99 various types of missiles against Ukraine. This response came after Russia retaliated on Sunday following drone attacks on two warehouses belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retail company. (Agency)
