Former Prime Minister Oli Undergoes Gallbladder Surgery Today
March 14, Kathmandu – Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to undergo gallbladder surgery today. The medical team responsible for his treatment had previously set this date for the procedure. Following the preoperative preparations, Oli has been moved to the operating theater. The surgical team, led by Dr. Paleswāñ Joshi Lākhe, will perform the operation to remove the gallstones found in his gallbladder. The stone measures 22 mm in size.
Previously, the day after the formation of the new government, Oli was arrested on charges related to suppressing the Genji agitation. He has been admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital since the day of his arrest. Following his detention, his wife, Radhika Shakya, filed a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court, alleging unlawful custody. On the evening of March 9, the Supreme Court ordered that the ongoing investigation against former Prime Minister Oli and then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak be completed by Thursday, March 12. The court mandated that if the investigation was not concluded by then, they are to be released on conditions. In line with this, police transferred custody of Oli from the hospital to his wife, Radhika Shakya. Although released, he remains hospitalized for the surgery.
