April 13, Kathmandu – Responding to questions raised in the National Assembly, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle explained that the dissolution of employee trade unions is incorporated in the next fiscal year’s policy program to make the civil service neutral, impartial, and professional. He stressed the need for reforms in the civil and government service sectors to make service delivery and good governance result-oriented.
He stated that the decision to dissolve trade unions should not be seen as opposition to the broader labor movement. Instead, the government aims to develop the civil and other government services into neutral, impartial, accountable, and professional institutions to enhance service delivery and governance efficiency. “We have included the dissolution of trade unions in the policy program with the aim of promoting result-oriented service and governance. This decision is not intended to ban the entire trade union movement,” he said.
