Trump Optimistic About Peace Deal with Iran, Announces Suspension of Planned Attack

US President Donald Trump has expressed hope that a peace agreement with Iran is possible.
He recently announced that he had suspended a planned military strike on Iran for the time being.
Trump said the decision came following appeals from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, which he shared in a post on Truth Social.
According to Trump, this suspension of the military attack, initially scheduled for Tuesday, aims to allow serious negotiations to begin.
Highlighting the possibility of a peace deal, Trump stated that Tehran must be willing to abandon all nuclear weapons development efforts.
He said there is a chance for an agreement that would be “very acceptable” to the United States.
However, weeks of indirect talks have shown little progress so far.
Speaking to reporters, Trump described the development as “very positive,” but added, “we will see what happens.”
Trump said, “We were at a point where it seemed we were close to an agreement, but it didn’t work out. But now things are different.”
In his view, there is a “very good chance” of a deal with Iran.
“If we can reach an agreement without bombing Iran, I will be very happy,” he added.
However, President Trump warned that if no acceptable deal is reached, the United States is “ready to launch a full-scale, major attack on Iran at a moment’s notice.”
He has issued such threats multiple times since the ceasefire agreement was reached last month.

A senior Iranian military commander has urged the US not to make another “strategic mistake and miscalculation.”
Iran’s Tasnim news agency published on Monday night a response from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, warning of opening a new front where “the enemy will be proven weak with insufficient experience.”
Tasnim appears to have reposted Khamenei’s views from March 12.
Several Iranian media outlets have started republishing his earlier written messages.
On Monday, Iran said it had responded to the latest US proposal and that talks with Washington are ongoing via Pakistani mediators.
The ceasefire took effect in April and has mostly been observed, apart from sporadic incidents.
Growing Opposition Within the US

The war initiated by Trump against Iran is becoming increasingly unpopular among the American public, with global economic consequences.
Trump’s latest announcement follows signs of declining support for his actions and reflects the war’s unpopularity within the US.
According to a New York Times/CNN survey published Monday, 64% of voters believe the decision to go to war with Iran was wrong.
Only 37% of voters expressed support for Trump’s job performance as president.
Besides the war, growing public dissatisfaction with Trump’s policies on the economy, immigration, and other issues could pose challenges for the Republican Party in the upcoming midterm elections.

Israeli and US forces launched a major airstrike on Iran on February 28.
In retaliation, Tehran attacked Israeli and US bases located in Gulf countries using drones and missiles.
Since then, there is increasing concern among Arab nations that if the US conducts any further attacks, Iran may respond strongly.
