Lift Irrigation Technology Brings Drinking Water to Halesi Tuwachung, Benefiting 31 Families
May 3, Khotang – Following the implementation of the ‘One House, One Tap’ program in Salle, Ward No. 9 of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, local residents have started enjoying improved water access. The drinking water project, constructed with financial and technical support from the Gorkha Welfare Trust, is now operational and benefits 31 Magar households in Salle.
The project implemented in the drought-prone area utilizes lift irrigation technology, with a total cost of NPR 5.3 million. Of this amount, the Gorkha Welfare Trust contributed NPR 4.6 million, while local users provided labor and cash support valued at NPR 700,000, according to Ward Chairperson Kashiraj Rai.
The consumer committee overseeing the project reported that water is drawn via lift irrigation from the large Pandhero spring and distributed to the settlement. After years of struggling with water shortages, the 31 Magar families can now access clean drinking water right within their own household compounds.
Kedar Rai, Senior Officer of the Gorkha Welfare Society in Dharan, informed that the construction of the system using lift irrigation technology was completed and handed over to the municipality within 72 days. The project has installed individual connections to 26 houses and set up two public water taps. Local residents expressed relief that they no longer need to walk long distances daily to fetch water following the launch of this lift irrigation water supply.
