Rain Forecasted in Hilly Regions and Temperature Rise Expected in Terai Areas

May 21, Kathmandu – The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division has predicted an increase in temperature in the Terai regions of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, with some districts expected to experience hot days. Meanwhile, rainfall is anticipated in some parts of the mountainous and hilly areas.

According to the division, a low-pressure system currently present in the upper atmosphere over the western region of the country, along with local wind effects, is influencing the weather. At present, the Himalayan and hilly areas of Gandaki and Karnali provinces are generally cloudy. Other hilly regions will experience partial cloudiness, while most Terai areas are expected to have mainly clear weather.

This morning, light rain has been recorded at one or two locations in the Himalayan and hilly parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces. The forecast states that this afternoon, the Himalayan and hilly areas will see generally cloudy skies, with partial cloudiness in the Terai regions. There is also a possibility of moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at some locations in the Himalayan and hilly regions, as well as at a few spots in the Terai of Madhesh and Koshi provinces.

Tonight, the Himalayan areas will experience generally cloudy conditions, while partial cloudiness is expected in hilly and Terai parts of Madhesh and Koshi provinces. The remainder of the Terai is forecast to remain mainly clear. Light rain or snowfall is possible at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces, and in the Himalayan parts of Gandaki and Karnali provinces. Additionally, the Weather Forecasting Division has suggested that moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning could occur at some locations in the Himalayan and hilly regions as well as in a few Terai locations within Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
