Norwegian star forward Erling Haaland has stated that all the pressure ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal match rests on England. On Sunday, Norway, making history by reaching the quarterfinals for the first time, will face England, considered one of the tournament favorites. Haaland has also urged the media to apply as much pressure as possible on England. The quarterfinal clash between Norway and England is scheduled for Sunday morning. Norway, competing in the World Cup for the first time since 1998, has created history by reaching the quarterfinals for the first time on this occasion. After finishing second in their group to advance to the knockout stage, Norway defeated Ivory Coast and five-time world champion Brazil to secure their spot in the quarterfinals.

When asked about the pressure, Haaland laughed and said, “Yes, all the pressure is on England. They are among the top teams contending for the title.” He added, “I encourage all of you to place as much pressure as possible on England’s players. Their supporters should also be confident that the team will reach the quarterfinals because this is England.”

Haaland has scored seven goals in the four matches he has played in this World Cup. He netted two goals against Brazil, leading his team to a historic victory. He admitted, “Honestly, I never imagined Norway would reach the World Cup quarterfinals. Beating Brazil and now playing England in the quarterfinals is an incredible experience for us.”

England’s left-back Niko O’Riley described Haaland’s remarks as a potential ‘mind game’. He said, “Maybe this is psychological warfare. But Norway is an outstanding team that has proven itself throughout the tournament. We need to be aware not just of Haaland, but the entire squad.” England’s assistant coach Anthony Barry also urged not to see Norway merely as Haaland’s team.
