Sombahadur Kumal Sets New National Record in 800m Race

At the World Athletics Continental Tour (Silver Level) 2026 held in India, Sombahadur Kumal set a new national record in the men’s 800-meter race by completing it in 1 minute 49.55 seconds. He broke his own previous national record of 1 minute 50.25 seconds, which he established at the 18th Asian Games in 2018, improving it by 0.70 seconds.

On 6th Bhadra in Kathmandu, Nepali runner Sombahadur Kumal shattered his own national record in the men’s 800-meter event. During the competition held as part of the World Athletics Continental Tour (Silver Level) 2026 in India, Kumal completed the distance in 1 minute 49.55 seconds, setting a new national benchmark. Kumal has held the national record in the 800 meters since 2018, when he clocked 1 minute 50.25 seconds at the 18th Asian Games. After eight years, he has improved his record by 0.70 seconds.
