Basil Twin to Compete at the World Sabat Championship in France

Basil Twine will compete in the senior 85 kg weight category at the World Sabat Assot Championship, scheduled to take place in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, from September 9 to 13. The two-member Nepalese team participating in this event departed for France on Sunday, accompanied by coach Laxman Basnet.

Basil has already secured a gold medal at the 6th Asian Sabat Championship held in India. He has also won a silver medal at the World Youth Sabat in Uzbekistan and a gold medal at the 7th Asian Sabat Championship held in Kathmandu. The event will see the participation of nearly 400 athletes and officials from 45 countries worldwide. Master Laxman Basnet, founder president and chief coach of the Nepal Sabat Association, is attending the competition as the team’s coach.

Originally from Suryabinayak Municipality-9 in Bhaktapur and standing 6 feet 4 inches tall, Basil claimed gold at the 6th Asian Sabat Championship in India in 2025. He also earned silver at the World Youth Sabat in Uzbekistan and gold at the 7th Asian Sabat Championship hosted by Kathmandu University from April 1 to 3.

Coach Laxman Basnet expressed confidence that due to Basil’s rigorous training and physical stature, he has a strong chance of winning a medal at the World Championship, which uses a league system. Nepal Sabat Association advisors, including former State Minister Dr. Viraj Bahadur Bisht, General Secretary and Chief Advisor of the Ministry of Sports Siddhi Benjankar, Vice President Dadhiram Kandel, and various other coaches saw the team off at Tribhuvan International Airport, wishing them victory.
