Government Attorney’s Office Reviews CIB Report on ANFA Match-Fixing and Fraud Case
October 7, Kathmandu – The Government Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the report submitted by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) regarding allegations of match-fixing and fraud within the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). On Wednesday, the CIB filed a case at the Lalitpur District Attorney’s Office against ANFA President Pankajvikram Nembang, General Secretary Kiran Rai, and two others based on their investigation.
The CIB concluded there were irregularities amounting to NPR 6,653,000 involving the accused individuals. The Government Attorney’s Office has stated that the report is under review, and a decision regarding the case is expected by Friday.
District Attorney Ganesh Paudel commented, “We received the report on Wednesday; we are studying it and will make a decision by tomorrow.”
Earlier, on September 18, the CIB raided ANFA headquarters and arrested Treasurer Ravindra Joshi and Accountant Sanjiv Pandey. Following their arrests, the ANFA President and General Secretary have been unreachable. Complaints filed against ANFA accuse the association of unethical home game sales detrimental to national interests and reputation, disobedience of directives from the National Sports Council, illegal bonus distribution, corruption involving commission in hotel rates during the Women’s SAFF Games, unauthorized foreign trips, misappropriation of grant funds, and unnecessary appointments.
Additional allegations concern irregularities in tenders conducted at various times not compliant with applicable laws, corruption in marketing, digital rights, broadcasting, and ticketing rights during various competitions. Serious internal irregularities, corruption, and misuse of position within ANFA have also been reported. Consequently, investigations based on these complaints were initiated and disciplinary actions requested.
In response to these issues and alleged third-party interference, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) suspended ANFA on June 24.
