Storm Completely Destroys Two Bighas of Ginger Farming in Dang
On April 20, a devastating storm completely destroyed two bighas of ginger farming located in Ratnapur, Ward 12 of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City in Dang. Humbahadur KC, who had been cultivating ten bighas of leased land, is facing significant losses due to the absence of insurance coverage. KC had employed four local workers and, after returning from Japan, dedicated himself to agriculture in his homeland.
The powerful storm that struck on April 20 wiped out all ginger plants in Ratnapur, Ward 12, according to KC. The ginger crops were in the final stages of preparation for sale, leading to substantial financial damage. KC has been involved in commercial farming for five years on ten bighas of land leased from Hapur Ratnapur Secondary School, but without insurance, the losses have been severe.
Out of the ten bighas he leased, ginger was cultivated on four bighas; two of these were completely destroyed while the remaining two suffered partial damage. In addition to ginger farming, KC also raises nearly three thousand broiler chickens across three sheds on four bighas of land and grows corn and chili on the rest.
After spending four years in Japan, KC returned to Nepal with the intention of contributing to local agriculture. He has committed himself to farming and provided employment to four local residents.
