
Probability of Rain Across Various Regions of Nepal Under the Influence of Western Trough
May 12, Kathmandu. Due to the influence of the western trough located in the upper atmosphere and local winds, there is a likelihood of rainfall in different parts of Nepal. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, currently, most of the hilly and mountainous regions of the country, including Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, are generally cloudy, while the Terai region is partly cloudy. Light rain is occurring in some areas of Lumbini Province and parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.
This afternoon, generally cloudy conditions are expected over the Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces as well as the mountainous and hilly areas of the country, while partial cloudiness will prevail in the remaining Terai regions. Thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rain and lightning are possible in some locations of Koshi and Madhesh provinces and certain areas in the mountainous and hilly regions of the country. The Department also indicates the chance of rainfall in one or two locations of the Terai areas in Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.
Tonight, generally cloudy skies will persist over Koshi Province and the country’s mountainous and hilly areas, while partial cloudiness is expected in the Madhesh Province and Terai region. Moderate rain along with thunderstorms and lightning may occur in some locations in Koshi Province and the mountainous and hilly areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Additionally, light rain and snowfall may be experienced in one or two places in the Terai regions of Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in some mountainous areas of the country. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has advised the public to remain cautious as rainfall, lightning, and snowfall may cause partial disruptions to daily life, agriculture, road, and air transportation.
