Harry Kane’s Penalty Goal Gives England the Lead

June 17, Kathmandu – England has taken the lead against Croatia in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Captain Harry Kane scored a penalty goal in the 12th minute to put England ahead. Initially, Kane’s penalty was saved by Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livaković. However, as Livaković was seen moving forward before Kane struck the ball, the penalty was retaken. On the second attempt, Kane successfully converted without error.

England was awarded the penalty after Croatia’s captain Luka Modrić fouled Noni Madueke. This goal marks Kane’s ninth in FIFA World Cup tournaments. England’s all-time top World Cup scorer, Gary Lineker, holds the record with 10 goals. Kane is now just one goal away from equaling that record.
