Nearly 100 Million Rupees Worth of Yogurt Sales Expected on National Rice Day
June 25, Kathmandu – On the occasion of National Rice Day, also known as Asar 15, it is estimated that around 7.5 million liters of yogurt will be consumed across the country this year. The Nepal Dairy Association has projected that yogurt sales alone on this day will generate approximately one billion rupees in economic transactions. This figure was revealed during the “Yogurt and Chiura Promotion Program” held in Kathmandu on Thursday. Traditionally, Asar 15 is marked by the Nepali custom of planting rice in the fields and celebrating with yogurt and chiura.
Speaking at the event, Nepal Dairy Association President Prahlad Dahal expressed confidence that cultural festivals like Asar 15 strengthen the connection between Nepali agricultural traditions and domestic products. He emphasized the necessity of advancing the production, promotion, and consumption of dairy products made within Nepal as a national campaign. Furthermore, President Dahal called attention to the challenges faced by dairy farmers, stressing that farmers must receive fair prices for their hard-earned milk and timely payments. He also highlighted the need for effective coordination and cooperation among all concerned agencies to ensure the sustainable development of the dairy industry as a whole.
