Nepali Wushu Thawla Team Departs for Kunming, China

The Nepali Wushu Thawla team is set to depart for Kunming, China, on Sunday to prepare for the 20th Asian Games. Ramcharitra Mehta, Member-Secretary of the National Sports Council, and Wang Dong, Consular Officer of the Chinese Embassy, bade farewell to the team on Friday. According to General Secretary Navaraj Dhungana, the Nepali athletes will undergo specialized training at Yunnan University for at least one month.

The Wushu Thawla team is scheduled to leave for Kunming, China, to train in preparation for the 20th Asian Games, which will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The team includes Hari Gole, Rajiv Tamang, Deepak Hamal, Vijay Sinjali, and Sabita Rai. Susmita Tamang, who has already been in China, will join the team from there. The team’s coach is Prakash Maharjan.

With the assistance of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, athletes are being arranged to train at Yunnan University, stated Navaraj Dhungana, General Secretary of the Nepal Wushu Federation. He informed that the players will initially train for one month, with efforts underway to extend the training duration by another month. Additionally, arrangements are being made for Sanshou athletes participating in the Asian Games to train in Yunnan as well.

The team was officially sent off during a ceremony on Friday by Ramcharitra Mehta, Member-Secretary of the National Sports Council, and Wang Dong, Consular Officer of the Chinese Embassy. Member-Secretary Mehta expressed confidence that foreign training will boost the athletes’ morale and wished them success at the Asian Games. He also conveyed his gratitude to the Chinese government for facilitating the training. Consular Officer Wang Dong recalled Yunnan University’s previous collaborations with Nepal in the field of sports and assured that the athletes will receive high-level training.
